My reasons (mostly overlapping with Crow_Umbra:

  1. It's not Earth-but-with-magic. I expect generic European-style high fantasy, but it's not directly 1-for-1 lifted from an existing culture.

  2. Redwall was and still is one of my favorite series, and I like the animal fantasy genre in general.

  3. Expanded creature types. With humans/elves/goblins/whatever out of the way, there's room to explore and develop lesser-used animals that have mostly been set pieces so far.

  4. Lighter tone. After a couple years of darkness, heavy drama, and yet another apocalyptic event, this looks like it's going to be a good breather set.

The better you understand banding the more those lands make sense (making your legends of a certain color qualify as having banding when making a band with other legendary creatures under your control). The flavor is definitely there, but it’s way over-complicated considering the result. If (when?) they bring back banding, it would show up as “legendary creatures you control have banding” and they’d leave it at that. “Goblins have banding with other goblins” and other assorted specifications, while flavorful, are too much.

If it does, would the next sequence be correct?

  1. Cast instant x - triggers magecraft
  2. Cast instant y - triggers magecraft
  3. Instant y copies instant x - triggers magecraft

I would end up with 3 magecraft triggers?

And in case of a Veyran, Voice of Duality on the field, would I end up with 6 total magecraft triggers?

At least for me, the handful of reasons I'm excited for Bloomburrow:

  • Totally new plane, so a fresh slate for us to get to know.

  • I think most people like cute animals to some degree. A more cutesy take on anthropomorphic animals as opposed to humanoid versions should be fun.

  • The animals are allegedly going to be centered on 2 color identities like the Ravnican Guilds.

  • First MtG planes that isn't going to have any Humans. I'm always down for a departure into new territory.

  • I'm personally looking forward to Legendary Raccoons (I know the Gruul precon will have a Raccoon commander), Legendary Crows, possums, foxes, & a platypus if possible. More than anything, I'd like a Legendary Raccoon or crow as a commander.

I have a very similar deck I've been running for a couple years now. You've got some decent picks here; slightly different direction than I went. +1

Take a look at my deck if you want to cherry-pick for some other things: Rakdos Menace (MTG Arena Build)

One notable difference I see is I find the synergy of Professional Face-Breaker with the Goldhounds can make for some really reliable ramp. Maybe something to give a try. Either way cheers!

It seems that many players are excited about Bloomburrow, but I am not certain why that is, since sentient beings that resemble anthropomorphic non-human animals, such as leonin, ainok, and viashino, have been part of this game for many years now, so I wonder what Bloomburrow offers that the game has not already had; is it the fact that the plane of Bloomburrow is inhabited only by anthropomorphic animals, and no humanoids?

What does everyone else say about this? Why are some players so excited for Bloomburow?

I think it's obscure, but pretty shallow. Shelkin Brownie removes the "bands with other" ability, and this post makes that a parallel with a hypothetical "partner with other" ability.

Obligatory yet interesting trivia: The "bands with other" is the benchmark for incomprehensible and pointless mechanics. No tournament-legal card natively has it; it only appears on tokens from Master of the Wild Hunt and the land cycle that FormOverFunction mentions. Old Fogey is an Un-card that has it, too. Despite the limited and restrictive usage, it received two dedicated hosers in Shelkin Brownie and Tolaria. So that covers the "pointless" part. The "incomprehensible" part comes from the rules text description. Banding by itself is a combat ability that changes based on whether you're attacking or defending. The basic summary is that you can group creatures together and decide how combat damage gets assigned, but evasion abilities become less relevant. "Bands with other" modifies how the band creation process works.

Kţ∑∫∑þar would be pronounced something like Kts-Ss-Sthar.

(o)mŋiπ∫ŧţπ is something like u(r)hm-ng-ipsth-thp. The first letter (not transcribing for me) is basically the vowel of "foot" in a Geordie accent, if you know what that sounds like.

(o)mŋiπ∫ŧţπ

Legendary Enchantment Creature - Avatar

You can't spend mana from permanents to cast this spell.

When (o)mŋiπ∫ŧţπ enters the battlefield, each player shuffles their hand and graveyard into their library, then exiles the top half of their library.

If a player would draw while their library has no cards in it, instead that player doesn't draw.

No way Voldaren Thrillseeker is playable in hammer, 3 mana creature with an activitated ability that costs mana

Not running some combination of Ornithopter + Puresteel Paladin also feels like a big mistake here, since puresteel is just generically good and ornithopter allows for t2 combo kills (t1 ornithopter sigarda, t2 double hammer)

Stoneforge Mystic better than Open the Armory, id cut 2 open and 2 Kellan for 4 stoneforge if you can afford it.

Forge Anew is a decent 2 of as well. All in all I'd run less of the fling effects and fling creatures, since those are only good once you have a hammer attached. I'd focus on making the hammer equipping more consistent instead of playing those win more effects

There would need to be an entirely new chapter of rules created just to interact with a players mana pool. And even if you could, this would become a replacement effect. Essentially replacing an opponents , for example, with .

Best way to do it is to say "Whenever an opponent adds one mana of any kind, they instead add no mana. This ability may only resolve once each turn."

This way all of the feeder tokens can trigger, but only one resolves, allowing the rest to trigger as intended.

This way if you have three feeder tokens and an opponent adds in that order, they'd only receive .

This is because perhaps your opponent tapped three mountains (each its own activated mana ability and thus subject to the triggers), they'd instead add , , .

Then perhaps they sacrifice two treasure tokens, one for and one for . They would keep those, as each feeder has resolved.

This would obviously create an absolute tremendous headache because so many players combo off rapidly and then you have to sit back and ask how they did it.

For example, adding from Sol Ring would actually get you . But what if they tapped Sol Ring to add the mana into filtering for Azorius Signet and Dimir Signet?

Now your opponent believes they have with three permanents tapped when in reality they have no mana, and both signets couldn't be activated.

A more "game appropriate" version is this:

"Whenever an opponent adds a colored mana to their mana pool, they instead add . This ability may only resolve once each turn."

This way you don't completely ruin the game.

Taida I love all those options. I do want Minn, Wily Illusionist in the mainboard but I have yet to obtain a copy. Mystic Remora, I only own 2 copies so far and they're in other decks at the moment but will certainly get one for here as well eventually.

Thanks for the other suggestions and the upvote!!

Taida on Shorikai Drift

Maybe you can include Unctus, Grand Metatect so you can dig even deeper. Midnight Clock can also help both being a mana rock and letting you draw quite a lot of cards. I also saw you have Minn, Wily Illusionist, and I think it could be in the mainboard. It cheats a lot of things into play with the illusions, and with Shorikai, Genesis Engine you draw the cards needed to trigger the ability.

Mystic Remora is also a very good card that you can consider. Although you will eventually need to sacrifice it, the card advantage it gives you is insane. If you also go for the route of mass drawing, Ominous Seas can flood the board very quickly, but you may need to include some cards to have no max hand size.

Another planeswalker that fits VERY well is Teferi, Temporal Pilgrim, and the illusions it creates are amazing with all the card draw from Shorikai, Genesis Engine.

Btw, amazing deck, I still have to upload my Shorikai deck here, but it is much less flavorful, just centered around tapping and untapping Shorikai, so I love the much more dedicated vehicle theme, it is definitely a +1.

I would also say take a second look at Baeloth since forcing your opponents to swing at each other can still activate your commander's abilities I think it makes an interesting fit for the deck.

Loading up a coated creature with equipments sure looks fun. I would look into the fast lands as you have a good deal of pain in the mana base. A lot of things take colorless mana so a few pain lands are fine. I can't remember how many I settled with with my no token artifact list but 4 spire already takes up a lot of pain. Does Eiganjo hit that many things? I remember trying it and hating it because 4 wasn't enough and 3 (or less) mana for the ability hurt. You don't take too many colors but another dual could help out maybe a 2nd Mirrex I'm pretty high on that card. The SB seems a bit wide right now, not sure if you should get the consistency up there. 2 dance is fine as you'll draw it when you need it but 1 cage 1 soul guide effect you might not get it in time. The rebukes are sweet but otherwise you only have 2 phole 1 dusk rose and 2 battle for removal. The 2nd Mirrex can help get battle mana and that's honestly a sweet card for aggro but you might want more removals to ensure you find them. On that note you might want 2 shadowspear that's where I landed on the sweet spot for them

I assume they’re referencing the “bands with other legends” text from lands like Adventurers' Guildhouse and Cathedral of Serra. They may also be leaning into the “everybody hates banding and wonders what you were even thinking when you green-lighted it” feeling and how that might be the same notion for partner.

moo1234 I think the feeder tokens as you've worded it would take 64 mana if you have 8 feeders. Because the -1 ability specifically gives the static ability to the feeder token. So if each feeder has the ability, each will take X mana, where X is the number of feeders you control. Does that make sense?

I think it would be better if each

  • Each feeder token has "remove the first mana that enters an opponent's mana pool each turn"

Or

  • If Kţ∑∫∑þar has the mana-draining ability with X and just makes feeder tokens that don't have the ability.

moo1234 on Card creation challenge

I might be wrong on how rules work here. But feeder tokens because it's a static effect, if you have 8 feeder tokens, only 8 mana will be taken from your opponents mana pools, rather than 64 (8 for each token) this is the intended way for it to work at least

predation We've actually found in playtesting that deciding when to play a Howling Mine is quite a balancing act :)

All else being equal, it's usually better to wait for your opponent to play theirs, since you can bounce it back to their hand, and of course they're the one spending the mana on it. Relic Barrier further reinforces this, since tapping down your own mine means neither player draws a card, while you can tap down theirs such that only they draw a card, making their mine a liability. The best way to use the mines seems to be as finishers once you have the tools to capitalise on it. The ideal turn 5 hand would be something like casting two mines, holding up a red mana for Runeflare Trap on the opponent's turn, dealing huge burst damage out of nowhere. You can get away with casting mines early in the game, but it's a risky play, not to mention that your mana could be spent on playing owls, or even drawing cards deliberately to dig for damage sources before your opponent can find them, since you'll be discarding to hand size anyway.

In sum, it actually tends to become a pretty tense game of chicken, with constant risk vs. reward evaluation on both sides. Waiting for the right time to put your mines on the board has definitely contributed to that :)

Femme_Fatale on Small Update: New Formats, New …

I was thinking about that myself actually but I think there's some issues with cleaning that data and how useful it'd be over time, and the maintenance involved in replacing things in decks when you get new hubs in or when users are entering hubs that already exist because they can't be bothered to find them ... there's a lot of pieces involved.

I think you either go one way or the other. We have a pretty popular hub request forum that legendofa here maintains that I trust the efficacy of that satisfies trying to go both ways already.

There is an issue of format specific archetypes that I think this feature might fit best for, more specifically so that we don't ever maintain it as these things can evolve quite rapidly or be incredibly niche. But if anything if I were to go this route I'd have every hub be user defined but include an auto-complete to site supported or recommended or popular hubs. Synonyms to some of these would have to be included.

Though I definitely fear the usefulness of this data, seems like it'd be just another form of title or description or hook. The deck space feature we have seems like it solves any sort of discoverability issues that user-defined hubs would try and solve.
