I was thinking about that myself actually but I think there's some issues with cleaning that data and how useful it'd be over time, and the maintenance involved in replacing things in decks when you get new hubs in or when users are entering hubs that already exist because they can't be bothered to find them ... there's a lot of pieces involved.

I think you either go one way or the other. We have a pretty popular hub request forum that legendofa here maintains that I trust the efficacy of that satisfies trying to go both ways already.

There is an issue of format specific archetypes that I think this feature might fit best for, more specifically so that we don't ever maintain it as these things can evolve quite rapidly or be incredibly niche. But if anything if I were to go this route I'd have every hub be user defined but include an auto-complete to site supported or recommended or popular hubs. Synonyms to some of these would have to be included.

Though I definitely fear the usefulness of this data, seems like it'd be just another form of title or description or hook. The deck space feature we have seems like it solves any sort of discoverability issues that user-defined hubs would try and solve.

Thanks, DreadKhan. Those are some really good suggestions for sure. I'm not sure exactly sure why I didn't consider putting in Zur before, considering he can fish out enchantments. Wandering Archaic would be actually be pretty good as well, because my friends that I play with do indeed run a lot of interaction. Spurnmage advocate is definitely something I can try fitting into my deck, as it seems to do pretty well with my rule of law stax effects indeed, and the fact that I can just give them back cards that are tapped or useless against my stax. Removal on a stick seems pretty useful as well, so that basically synergizes with my counterspell on a stick as well.

@ Femme_Fatale I'm not a website designer but what if the was an option to type in your own hub. And over time your website gets a weekly or monthly tally of new hubs being used and when it reaches a certain number it gets automatically added. Is that something that can be done?

I have no idea what Undercity even is. Historic not being there makes sense because it's not a keyword. Same with Outlaws and Crime Committing. Stickers also wouldn't get auto-added as it isn't a subtype nor a keyword. None of these would work as subtype/keyword hubs since those check the occurrence of them in the deck.

Regardless, that's the bug with hubs I'm talking about. Things like gates, battles, attractions, etc should be auto-added but they aren't.

Elocutiona: Is casual flag no longer checks quantity of a card for legality so your Dandan decks and all other casual formats should be fine now.

I decided to give him access to black because eternalized creatures are black in game. Also to give his ability access to the graveyard. However, idk why I did that because none of the other god-eternals got any new colors to play with. -shrug-


Challenge: Make a white card with the Shadowborn Apostle "a deck can have any number of this card" ability. I think each color has a card like that except for white.

I did some fiddling around with my Talrand and Proteus Staff, I found that I preferred it to Polymorph because I could throw a Sphinx of the Second Sun in, and if Proteus Staff hits Sphinx first it's amazing because I get to untap and draw an extra card before I hit my end step, meaning I can likely Staff again to get Jin just in time (and still have mana up for interaction). I guess it boiled down to me trying to raise the ceiling on Jin, and that was the best I could come up with! The other nice thing about an artifact plan is Blue has tons of relevant tutors, and if you clear all of the creatures out of your deck and Proteus Staff away another Drake you get to put your library in whatever order you want... meaning Jin can then draw you the actual 7 cards you want most. It's very, very degenerate when it works, but I was aiming for a budget cEDH list rather than something suitable for casual play.

I'm not sure if you need blockers, but Metallurgic Summonings can generate a bunch of them for you, and Shark Typhoon can generate attackers (or flying blockers if you're desperate), they're handy if your playgroup likes to 'deal with' Talrand, these Enchantments tend to be very sticky, people neglect Enchantment removal in my experience.

If you're aiming for a more casual Talrand, I might have a few ideas for you that are budget to boot! Hands of Binding and Hidden Strings offer two very low to the ground repeatable spells that can generate Drakes if you can Cipher them onto something evasive and get in, Hidden Strings can untap your stuff fwiw, and Hands of Binding can lock down the most problematic thing if you want. Last Thoughts isn't as good IMHO, but repeated card draw tends to be very good if you don't need to input more resources. Stolen Identity can be a solid win con, if what you take has evasion you can keep getting in and getting copies, it can get pretty out of hand, even as a 6 MV spell.

If you like politics and/or combat tricks I might have a few that are worth looking into, Mass Diminish is a true budget gem, the effect lasts long enough to be truly crippling late game, and it has Flashback for no discernable reason, very good at making one opponent dead, and then another opponent dead because their board is tiny. Polymorphist's Jest is much more of a surprise since it's an instant, but the effect can turn an opportunistic attack into a bloodbath (in either direction).

In any deck that's not in the ideal colours for removal I often end up looking hard at Transmogrifying Wand, this can deal with 3 creatures if it sticks around, 2/4s are basically trash vs your 2/2s in the air. Even if all you do is force someone with a low MV Commander to keep recasting to raise the tax it's very little resources to do it.

It's not a nice thing to do to someone, but I've always thought of Talrand as a real man of culture, perhaps you'd want to send some Drakes on a Cultural Exchange?

Neat idea, I love seeing people making Gruul work in Legacy!

I would run two more Utopia Sprawls over Rampant Growth, they aren't all that pricey anymore (ymmv of course). I'd even run a worse Utopia Sprawl like Blighted Burgeoning or Fertile Ground, either has it's own upsides, and both work very well with your Arbor Elf.

I think with x4 Arboreal Grazer you might consider at least a couple lands, Grazer feels awful when you're short of lands. I'm not sure how much you'd need, but 1 or 2 would be helpful IMHO.

Randomly, Gruul got one of the all time great ramp effects back in Ice Age, Orcish Lumberjack is epic ramp, great if you need to hit a Hulk several turns early. You might want something to prevent your Hulk from getting countered, maybe Rhythm of the Wild? The haste is also VERY good with Lumberjack, letting you drop it and tap it for 3 (though you do sacrifice the Forest) right away, dodging removal potentially. I personally love using Orcish Lumberjack with Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, this way you can effectively Sinkhole people in Gruul, and technically you'd have 1 mana left, even on turn 2. Some people don't fear land destruction and will keep a 1 land hand so it can work sometimes fwiw, and the cost is negligible (it's even a ramp spell if you hard cast it without Lumberjack).

How often do you end up with a decent land count? If you find you can actually hit 5 lands in a lot of games, you could throw in Crop Rotation and Temple of the False God x1, if you aren't ready for a Temple yet you can tutor up a Red source I guess, or a Wolf Run. I'd guess if you pull those Rampant Growths Temple x1 isn't worth bothering with. You could always do that trick with x1 Ancient Tomb, but those aren't as cheap!

Yeah, Attraction cards and Sticker cards got banned from Commander a few days ago. If your group is okay with it, you could keep them, but officially that cards aren't legal and should be switched out.

I sometimes wonder if Spurnmage Advocate could ever find a home, but seeing this deck makes me wonder if it might fit in here as a deterrent of attackers that can be sacrificed to counter something if you're desperate, it's only W to cast and the downside interacts incredibly well with your Stax effects. For example, if you have Rule of Law out, you can usually give people things like Ponder, as long as they are Sorceries they are almost worthless, if you have an effect that makes lands enter tapped you can give them Fetchlands with a smile. Other Stax/Hatebears let you pick other cards as situationally bad. Another upside of Rule of Law + Advocate is the opponent can't flood the board easily, making the deterrent more effective over time. This advocate is also good with your Drumbellower, especially since it doesn't use extra mana to activate it's ability.

Have you considered tossing Zur the Enchanterfoil in here? You have quite a few small enchantments (18? I run Zur in a deck that can find about 12 cards, and he's an all-star in there), so if you resolve him it could feel pretty good.

Do people play a lot of interaction in your meta? If so I really love having Wandering Archaic  Flip out with Rule of Law, it makes it interaction a lot worse vs you, and much better vs most of your opponents.

I'm going to have to fiddle around with your list at some point, I've wondered how effective a competitive deck this Ertai would make, the effect is very strong, and the colours are strong enough, I guess Zur just caught my eye first and I built that way back, and cEDH lists are pricey! Anyways, cool deck idea, hopefully you can keep it updated/polish it up as you notice issues.

I will also vouch for old growth, it will usually end up dying anyways and it gives way more devotion

Cavalier of Thorns good 5 drop that can grab you your nykthos and also lets you maybe recur something important

Leyline of the Guildpact is kind of gimmicky but you can run it in these devotion builds since its technically 4 green devotion, and it also makes your nykthos untappable with arbor elf. You could also add the leyline scion combo but its not necessary to make leyline playable imo.

One of the best utility lands for this deck archetype (mill) is Scavenger Grounds. It's great because while you want the effect of exiling entire graveyards in your deck, you would probably rather not spend the deck slot on including it if it were on another card like an artifact. There's almost no reason not to include some form of graveyard hate though and this is almost free as a land. Just throw some of these other lands in that fit your color identity especially the new OTJ desert lands.

Starting the hub inventory, I don't see any of the keywords or mechanics from MKM or OTJ: disguise, case, suspect, plot, spree, outlaw, mount, and commit a crime are all missing. Gate, battle, stickers, and attractions are also missing, as mentioned above, along with historic, performer, clown, employee and guest. (Stickers and attractions might fall off after the last round of bans.) I'm happy to add them manually, but if it's supposed to be auto-creating, it's being pretty slow about it.

Would Undercity fall into Venture into the Dungeon, or is it distinct enough to be its own mechanic?

If this magical art isn't just used for fighting, but also used to clean bathtubs with the power of neutralizing reactions and make everything taste better with phenolic acids, maybe chemister would work. If you want to avoid just calling it chemistry, there's chemisturge and chemisturgy.

I'd run more removal and cut some of the mid creature threats like Rakdos Roustabout. PRimeval Titan is a good card but not super good in this deck, if you're on a budget I think there are better options for the same price point. Stuff like Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Bloodbraid Elf.

25 lands is a bit heavy, esp since you have mana dorks, 23 seems like a good number to me.

I'd also cut Gaea's Blessing and Manamorphose, they don't really fit the deck.

Definitely go up to 4 bolts, maybe run some Inquisition of Kozilek, 1-2 Angrath's Rampage (better than sheoldred's edict for RB decks since you can kill one rings, and its cheaper too), 1-2 Molten Collapse, 0-1 Maelstrom Pulse etc.

After you hit Tibalt's Trickery, target the first sliver. You will then spin into Cultivator Colossus or (hopefully) something that will get cultivator and witherbloom. Cultivator will get all your lands onto the field including Maze's End. With all the gates you will win.
