Kudo, King Among Bears seems pretty fun, although I hope there's going to be more bear kindred support. Since he affects all creatures, stuff like Alpha Status and OG Norn works. And They Shall Know No Fear is Heroic Intervention at home, and Roaming Throne works for all of your creatures. Go-wide tokens seems like it would work, as would 0/0 creatures like Kalonian Hydra. Might be worth looking into the EDHREC cards for the two selesnya cat legends from Lost Caverns of Ixalan?

Herigast, Erupting Nullkite: Kinda feel like an Emerge commander would be black and/or green instead? IDK how to abuse this either, red doesn't have that many good "overcosted" creatures like Avatar of Fury.

Null Elemental Blast: yeah this is really good in EDH, where every random utility land taps for .

Final Act: playable experience counter hate in EDH.

You can make different choices. Choices like modes, targets, and a specific distribution of something, like the damage from Arc Lightning for example, are made when the spell is first cast and are locked in for all copies. Any other choices are made as the spell resolves, so that means the decisions get made separately for the original and each of the copies.

So, some thoughts:

  • you’re at 62 cards, which is 2 more than you should have - i’d just ditch the two Nylea's Disciple as they’re doing absolutely nothing for you.

  • Raking Canopy should never be in the mainboard of a deck as it’ll just be useless far too often. It would be dubious even in a sideboard. Nissa, Genesis Mage is too much mana for too little profit also. I would swap both for two copies of Garruk Wildspeaker, which offers you quicker ramp and some plan-b options.

  • you only have 3 cards to hit off your genesis effects, which is faar too low a ratio to ever be reliable. Added to that, your description mentions Spawnsire but that card’s not in the deck.

  • Unbound Flourishing doesn’t seem very good here. It would be better served as more payoff cards from your genesis effects.

Good evening everyone,

Zada, Hedron Grinder is an all star in my Feather, the Redeemed deck. I've been playtesting it and found a RW interaction I could not have a clear answer. Please help me if you can.

When I target Zada with a "protection from color" granting spell, like Shelter and Stave Off, the spell will be copied to each other creature I control.

Question: do I get to pick a color for each creature?

Zada's rulling says the following:
If the spell that's copied is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copies will have the same mode. You can't choose a different one.

But these spells are not modal, as far as I know, so I'd like to know if they are the "or the like" or if they work diffently.

Thanks in advance and have a good one.

tazorface6, You can! For casual games, what I do is buy a Land Station from Amazon, and affix proxies printed from a site like mtgprint.net that will let you print the deck list from an ink jet. If you are looking for official budget replacements for cards, anything should work fine as long as the core shell cards for the combo are in place. It would definitely take some thinking through which cards you'd want to cut.

That is great feedback! I have been wondering that myself actually. I am currently waiting on some protection equipment to come in from the mail to add to the deck this way she doesn't immediately get removed. BUT i can definitely try and work on taking less copies and more damage. Again, I appreciate the advice! Anything else you'd recommend?

DreadKhan on Sisay- CEDH Build

I'm not sure if you should be running that many guild Signets, why not just run more Green ramp that is better at fixing your mana? Artifacts do better in cEDH than more casual games, but you'll be feeding Dockside. I'd even run Talismans over Signets if you feel desperate for 2 mana rocks, Talisman of Indulgence is a more useful card in most situations than Rakdos Signet. Also Fellwar Stone exists fwiw.

Similarly, I'm not sure if you should run ETB tapped Fetches in a cEDH deck, but I will admit the fixing is nice. Stuff like Rocky Tar Pit belong in more casual games, at least in my experience.

I can see you have tons of combos in here, but I can't help but mention Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, she synergizes incredibly well with Sisay, Emiel and a Haste source (like Samut), usually netting you infinite mana and as many cards as you want (by flickering your Sisay, who should be the strongest creature). I only mention it because I think you've got everything Selvala needs to work, and she's a Legendary mana dork that can make any colours of mana.

If you're hoping to play cEDH I would recommend you run at least a couple Counters, some relatively affordable ones (that still hit relevant stuff reliably) are Swan Song, An Offer You Can't Refuse, and maybe Pact of Negation or even Flusterstorm. If these are too pricey you can also try Arcane Denial or Dispel. I would definitely run Dispel over Lightning Greaves in a deck like this, people don't run Sorcery speed answers very often in cEDH, so they'll just wait until you're going to equip the Greaves and then Swords you.

Do you have a plan for Opposition Agent? I feel like if people resolve one you're going to be having a very bad time, unless I'm missing a bunch of removal, and people love Oppo in cEDH. You might consider some of the more versatile removal options, stuff like Generous Gift, Stroke of Midnight, and Beast Within can hit pretty near anything you need gone.

I would replace bone miser with waste not does the same thing but cheaper cmc which is always good not sure if you want infinites in here or not but since you have a lot of life loss stuff you could put bloodchief ascension and mind crank it goes infinite fast especially with all the life loss you have going on in this build.

Rhadamanthus on Cyclops Gladiator and Khârn

This is a bit difficult to figure out, but my interpretation is that Khârn will still deal damage back to the Cyclops. The way I'm reading the rules about resolving spells and abilities (608, specifically 608.2b), they seem to indicate the last check on a target's legality is right before the spell/ability starts resolving.

There aren't any specific comments addressing what to do if one instruction in the resolving spell/ability somehow manages to change an object's characteristics in a way that seems to make it an "illegal" target before other instructions are carried out. But if the legality determination can't change during resolution then the resolving spell/ability can still continue acting on anything that was a legal target when it started. This might be something worth taking to an MtG Judge Reddit/Discord, and I'd be interested to see what their answers and reasoning are.

Hi! Found your deck in looking to tweak my own Octavia. Good stuff! Definitely adding the Windrider to mine, so thank you!

You mentioned boardwipes being a weakness. I highly suggest Cyclonic Rift, Engulf the Shore, and Displacement Wave. All three will likely "miss" Octavia while wiping the rest of the board, and as most of our creatures cost so little, repopulating after Engulf or Wave is much easier than most other metas.

I use some pieces from the Necron deck in my Glissa, the Traitor deck. It has a lot of artifacts going in and out of the graveyard, so those Necron cards were an easy slot in.

If you want to lean into a more staxy/control version, there are several additional cards that can work well with her (Torpor Orb, Smokestack, Tangle Wire, Grave Pact, etc)

I've got some of those in my version of Glissa. Shameless plug for my deck haha. Glissa, Traitor of Mirrodin [Artifact Primer]

There are some slight differences KayneMarco. In CanLander you have no Commander, start with 20 life, and share a banlist with Vintage. This deck can use Windgrace as a Commamder, but I think Fastbond is banned in that format.

plakjekaas on Are Free Spells Becoming Too …

As for your sidenote, the whole idea of free spells is that the spell will cost you something different than mana. All previous free spells in MH sets required you to exile a card from your hand, and only is able to Pull from Eternity. That never limited their usefulness. Especially because you would need the additional card to be in hand, to actually pay for the spell, which has no bearing on your ability to reimburse the costs.

Every color has playable creatures, though not every deck will want to play creatures to enable a free Cultivate or a free Cancel. I want to see what the other effects are before complaining that black will have an easier time to get their cost refunded, for what possibly could still be a free Alms of the Vein at the cost of a creature.

wallisface on Help improve my deck pls

Two things that might help people better evaluate this:

1) what format is this for? I assume Modern??

2) make this as a deck on the site and put the link to it here. It’s a bit hard reading the list as a wall-of-text.

Just from looking at what’s there at the moment, a bunch of cards don’t seem very good/helpful - namely Nylea's Disciple (doesn’t advance your boardstate therefore doesn’t do anything), Nissa, Genesis Mage (and excessively high mana cost and basically only provides even more mana), Gelatinous Genesis (there’s just better things to be doing than this).

I’m worried you’re investing a lot of energy to maybe be cheating out some kindof-ok (but a bit meh) creatures, when you could instead just be Tooth and Nailing out an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Xenagos, God of Revels to win the game on the spot.

Myzocom, Renewal of Decay

Legendary Creature - Fungus Shaman

You may cast creature spells and enchantment spells from your graveyard by paying life equal to their mana value in addition to their other casting costs.

Whenever you cast a spell from your graveyard, create a 1/1 green Saproling creature token. If the spell you cast is legendary, create three of these tokens instead.

3/3

Want to know why this guy is insanely broken and would never be printed as is? Ornithopter exists, as does Phyrexian Altar or any other sac outlets. Enjoy infinite mana with infinite tokens, which can cause infinite triggers from all of your creature and enchantment based ETB effects.

To make him "playable", it would have to limit to 1 cast per turn. That way you break super easy infinite loops. Of course you literally have the same loop anyway with Gravecrawler and a zombie online, so it doesn't really matter. The difference is, this is your Commander - meaning you always have access to him which makes it significantly harder to actually stop your unending gameplay.

Although, give it some time and I'm sure WOTC will print something like him just because of the nature of power creep.

Speaking of which, that's your next challenge. Let's see an Aura called "Power Creep".

10,000 bonus points if the card feels like it would belong in a new D&D set.

I've managed to get everything out by turn 4 before...but it just doesn't feel fast enough, I brick way too often, by either drawing way too much mana or not drawing enough mana, any advice?

Hey there, thanks for the upvote and questions.

Truth be told, I don’t really worry about enchantments or artifacts, as there are plenty of ways to kill in this death, attacking tends to be the last form I use.

The deck is really only meant to play in semi casual environments, so im not super worried about having answers for everything as Grave Pact effects are enough for people to hate playing against this.

All of those suggestions are solid, but 9/10 times Yahenni is actually just an indestructible sac outlet. So, saving counters is meh. I used to have more sad outlets in the deck but since Yahenni is cheap and hard to remove, I removed a lot of the extra in favor of more support.

wallisface For sure, in 60 card the flares seem like they won't be a problem, that's a great point! I don't even think the flares will be very good in cEDH or anything, I just think it's a big problem in casual commander where sometimes it feels like they prey on player's want to optimize decks little by little. I mean, I don't think that Esper Sentinel has ever, ever actually won me a game of edh, but just the fact that it makes so many decks slightly better has sold so many copies. I don't know, it's just a different feeling when you find some cool new tech card that fits your deck perfectly rather than wizards just printing something slightly different or slightly better in the color you're playing.

And yep, I agree that card draw is getting a little out of hand, or at least card splashable card draw. Draw in blue never felt too bad, even if Brainstorm was very good, the cards blue had to play used to be objectively less powerful 1 for 1, so it evened out. With things like The One Ring it adds powerful draw into every color, and that's pretty broken. I think the London Mulligan also plays a part in it. Players being able to just mulligan with little cost because if they hit their draw engine it didn't really matter how deep they went, that's unhealthy gameplay on a pretty big scale.

I get that draw is maybe a good overall feature because it evens out mana floods/bricks, but for a format with a large and older card pool like modern, most of those cards are not balanced for games that have that much draw. Tron almost never whiffs now, and that absolutely blows my mind. Hitting a brick on Tron was like the one downside it always had and now it's just, well, I guess you can't cast a Ragavan off of Tron, so...mid...

Ultimately I do wonder if The One Ring will get banned in modern though. The way it plays with cascade is one of those things where I feel like neither player really has fun in that match. Protection plus card draw really shores up the random aspect of cascade way too well. The one ring really feels like something that should have been in commander only. Even if it's rough in edh, at least it's not, one ring drew me a new one ring, rough.

wallisface on Are Free Spells Becoming Too …

Just following on from what Niko9 posted, I get that having more free spells in what is supposed to be a casual format would be a problem. The large deck-size and singleton rule means players can easily run one-of-each copy, and in a format where you have 3 opponents that will certainly make it a lot harder to assess the boardstate.

However, my commentary above was based on Modern… I couldn’t care less about edh (as many people will already know), so i’m not as worried with that formats direction (any format Wotc actively pays attention to inevitably gets warped into a mess imo, and there’s numerous larger issues with Wotc focusing on edh than just the free-spells).

From a 1-v-1 60-card format perspective, these so far feel pretty safe. There’s a limit on the density of free spells you can realistically put into a deck (for example, Merfolk likely remove Force to fit blue-Flare into it) - and generally the number of lines a deck could play are predictable (provided you know the meta), so it’s a lot easier to grasp the current state-of-play, and what an opponent is likely representing even when tapped out.

The bigger global issue with free spells is Wotcs recent push towards having lots of efficient card draw. In the past free spells were kept in-check by card drawing generally costing a premium, and so forcing card-disadvantage to use them. With cards like The One Ring concepts like card-disadvantage can quickly cease to be an issue - powering up free spells immeasurably. HOWEVER, unlike the previous iterations of MH free spells, these still require you pay something (i.e cast a creature), so they’re a bit less-free, and less abusable than other cycles, imo.
