Hey, saw your forum topic asking for help.

Cards to consider cutting to make 100:

In your forum topic you said you're not worried about reducing the high avg. CMC by cutting high CMC creatures because you can pay Phyrexian mana to reduce their cost. This is true to some degree, but you're not always in every game going to have Krrik on the battlefield, access to Phyrexian mana, and the times when this happens then having a lower avg. CMC will allow you to actually play Magic.

The other problem is why play worse high CMC creatures then Vilis, Broker of Blood , Pontiff of Blight , Sheoldred, Whispering One or Reiver Demon ? There's no reason to jam a bunch of other high CMC creatures just because you can. These creatures especially the interaction of Vilis, Pontiff with Krrik are better than all the other high CMC creatures who are within the budget here. You would rather draw them then the others therefore make it easier to draw them and don't include lots of other high CMC creatures?

Pontiff of Blight giving extort to all creatures you control is good especially if you're playing a life gain strategy. Extort can be paid for with Phyrexian mana, that's what makes it busted. Each extort trigger can be paid with 2 life, but if you have three opponents you gain 3 life for each trigger, you gain 1 life per opponents who loss life. This means you extort for free and also gain 1 life after each trigger. Even if you only have two opponents you're still getting to extort for free because of Phyrexian mana.

Before you can do anything with Krrik and Phyrexian mana you have to get him on the battlefield and this means getting four mana (colorless or black). First priority for upgrades to consider is adding more early game ramp that's within the budget:

The strength of Krrik is Phyrexian mana, but to take advantage of this you want lots of other one mana cards. When you play Krrik you want to right away start giving him counters:

Cremate, Wisps, Tainted are not usually playable cards, but with Krrik they are because they're free to cast and most draw a card. For one mana or free Symmetry can get you Necropotence into your hand.

Two drops are also good, not as good as one drops, but still good value with Phyrexian mana:

You could fit Demonic Tutor and Diabolic Intent in here if you wanted by cutting some cards that are by no means as powerful as either because these tutors can get you Necropotence , Bolas's Citadel or Aetherflux Reservoir ; all more impactful cards/game winning cards. Consider cutting these cards to add Demonic/Intent? Most of these cards are high mana cost redundancy which are not needed:

I offer more advice if you would like. Good luck with your deck.

I'd add Death Baron cheap lord, Quasiduplicate for copy lord, Mana Geode , Dimir Signet , and Commander's Sphere for ramp, Graf Harvest for zombie boosting, Liliana, Dreadhorde General and Liliana, the Necromancer for reasons, and Black Market for getting lots of black mana

I would recommend taking out some more mana intensive spells, like Overwhelming Intellect and Stir the Sands , and adding in more land. A good mana base for a commander deck is usually 35-38 lands. 29 is generally too low unless you have plenty of ramp. Now stay with me here,

I'd run Liliana, Death's Majesty here; the reanimation effect is really surprisingly helpful. I'm very very surprised to not see Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip in here as well. Both are significantly stronger, in my opinion, than Liliana, the Necromancer and possibly Vraska, Scheming Gorgon .

You could run Throne of Geth to get extra proliferate triggers. I'd also highly recommend Imp's Mischief , to avoid targeted removal being thrown at your Walkers. Given that you're proliferating frequently, have you considered Everflowing Chalice or Astral Cornucopia ? Or Illusionist's Bracers , for that matter ;)

I know my list doesn't have much in common with yours - we're doing very different strategies - but there may be some general Yawgmoth synergies you missed if you want to take a look :)

Otherwise this is a good deck, but Planeswalkers can't be commanders as they aren't legendary creatures. to keep the deck mostly as-is, I would keep Liliana, the Necromancer in planeswalkers and replace either Leaden Myr or Sunscorched Desert with Whisper, Blood Liturgist as your commander. Sacrificing two replaceable zombie tokens is a small price to pay to put something like Harvester of Souls back on the battlefield.

Llanowar Elves | Ochran Assassin | Underrealm Lich | Izoni, Thousand-Eyed | Ravenous Chupacabra

Liliana, the Necromancer might be better here than Vraska, Regal Gorgon. Necrotic Wound isn't as consistent as I'd like it to be, I've run them before, even with 24 creatures it wasn't enough. Fungal Infection or Vicious Offering are solid alternatives. Doomed Dissenter may be good here, once it dies you get a Zombie token and have a creature card in your graveyard for Undergrowth.

Is it just me or is Oriss, Samite Guardian really channeling tatooine bikini Leia. This might be a long one because there's a few things I wanna say and I have a habit of going into way too much detail.

  1. You have very few ways of digging to a second Oriss. Most of your deck doesn't do anything if you don't have at least 2 of her and the chances of that happening naturally in any given game is around 12% on turn three and only reaches 50/50 by turn 12. The planeswalkers, removal and hand disruption help of course however being able to dig for a second copy would be incredibly valuable. I'm thinking Corpse Churn, Discovery / Dispersal or even Shriekhorn seeing as you have so many ways of getting stuff back.

  2. Activating Oriss won't stop them killing her in response. The vast majority of removal spells in the modern format, especially the most played ones, are all instant speed. Modern decks usually fall into 2 categories : Proactive kill you on turn 4 combo decks and "fair" or "linear" control decks that are usually packed with Fatal Pushs(+fetch lands), multiple Lightning Bolts, Terminates, Path to Exiles and Cryptic Commands so if your planning on letting your opponents draw their entire deck they are going to get out of the lock eventually. My suggestion is Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots or even Gods Willing.

  3. Graveyard hate is a sideboard staple so maybe have some Disenchants ready in the sideboard for any pesky Rest in Peace.

  4. The bit where I suggest random cards. Palace Siege seems insane and tbh you probably want more Liliana, the Necromancer. Codex Shredder is like Shriekhorn except it can be a Time Warp when the lock is partially assembled. Memorial to Folly is a potential alternative to Haunted Fengraf. Dusk / Dawn has potential as both sides can be relevant and you usually want a split on wrath to play around Meddling Mage a.k.a. 1 Damnation, 1 Day of Judgment and 1 Wrath of God instead of 3 Wrath of God.

Anyways sweet deck concept. I think some version of this could be modern viable.

(JSYK, I had a minor Blackout so I couldn't respond earlier. Sorry... :/)

@griffstick: I appreciate your suggestions about this, but I was asking about what cuts I should do to get to 100? Oh, & I'll add Contagion Engine & Inexorable Tide. Even though both things are considered "Win-More" to many. I already have quite some engine anyway; although you are still, regardless, tempting me into that Plaguemaw Beast... XP

BTW, just looked up Smh. Either you're right about a mass Discard deck w/ Tibalt running either Olivia, Mobilized for War, or Malfegor, & I'm as Ambitious as I already know; moreso even now, or the fact I'm running would mean something regarding the 4 words; all Keywords. Well, I'm sorry about such a notion, but there probably is worse out there anyway; Hint: Eldrazi Displacer + Riftsweeper. & the deck isn't even .

But I digress.

This means I have 3 to add, but I added the following anyway:

Djeru, With Eyes Open

Thalia's Lancers

Ajani Vengeant

Ral, Caller of Storms

Angrath, the Flame-Chained

Dovin Baan

Liliana, the Necromancer

Garruk Wildspeaker

Jace, the Living Guildpact

Jace, Unraveler of Secrets

Samut, the Tested

Tezzeret, Artifice Master

& some permanent that can also copy Activated Abilities (Since Rowan Kenrith is getting the red light despite Ensnaring Bridge, Meekstone, & even Dueling Grounds...)

(wait...)

Would Tawnos, Urza's Apprentice apply? I could activate his ability to copy Rings of Brighthearth to add an additional activation. Does this work that way? If so, I have 4 cards in addition to cut. What walkers should I cut? I guess Dovin Baan has negligible abilities... So, which to cut to 100? & thanks, griffstick. I'll use at least 3 of what you suggested... :D
