Sakaizokan, Ravenous Colony

Legendary Creature - Insect Wall

Defender

When Sakaizokan enters the battlefield, create X 1/1 red insect creature tokens named Fire Ant. They have ": This creature deals 1 damage to any target."

Whenever you are attacked, Sakaizokan deals X damage divided as you choose among attacking creatures equal to the number of insects you control.

6/6

Dragonlair Spider, Hornet Queen, Hornet Nest, Ant Queen, Beacon of Creation, Carrion, Grist, the Hunger Tide, Amzu, Swarm's Hunger, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, Living Hive, Broodhatch Nantuko, Nest of Scarabs, Xira, the Golden Sting

I mean are you kidding me? And this isn't even all of them, and not even all of the best ones in these colors. Not to mention all of the all of the black punishment effects, all of the red ETB damage effects or all of the green propagation effects.

Your challenge is to make another interesting Commander, and showcase several cards that would be in their deck starting precon deck.

Remember this is a precon deck, so cards should largely be between $1 and $3 each, with maybe two or three $10 max cards.

And if you look, yes I did adhere to my own rule with Beacon of Creation, Grist, the Hunger Tide and Amzu, Swarm's Hunger being the expensive ones in the list.

Grisly Salvage? Also, utilizing artifact/enchantment creatures that also mill could enable you do use Grim Flayer, which is still a pretty strong card. Molderhulk also fits. In fact, most of the undergrowth cards from guilds of ravnica fit, including Underrealm Lich, Necrotic Wound, Mausoleum Secrets, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, etc.

Only thing is....oh, man do you need to try and dodge any and all graveyard hate, lol. Have those Tear Asunder ready, or maybe just cheaper cards focused exclusively on artifacts/enchant hate like Natural State, etc.

Hey man, looking over it, obviously a great looking budget list. Keeping a general mindset of no cards over $3 I would add:

Removal : Seal of Removal, Seal of Doom, Oubliette, Kenrith's Transformation. These are awesome removals that you can play and keep until you need to use them, and Returnable with Mully

Ramp : Bounty of the Luxa, Mind Stone, Rootcoil Creeper, Leyline Prowler, Kodama's Reach Good cheap cards to help you get Muldrotha out faster, and then be able to play 2-3 spells a turn. The Prowler is also just an awesome blocker sometimes with his deathtouch.

Top End : World Breaker because he just deals with SO MANY weird things your opponents could be doing, Tatyova, Benthic Druid is awesome, especially with the fetch-style lands you've got going on.

Tutor : Dig Up Great budget Tutor for your colors.

I would take out: Too high CMC / Clunky : Deadbridge Chant, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, Worm Harvest, Mythos of Brokkos (replace with Dig Up)

Too uneventful / slow / non-impactful : Desecrated Tomb, Perpetual Timepiece, Tamiyo, Collector of Tales, Growth Spiral, Llanowar Elves, Foundation Breaker, Vessel of Nascency, Stinkweed Imp

Would recommend lowering your mana curve, increase the ramp base, and add some tutors.

I'd suggest playing all the one-mana elves (Llanowar Elves, Fyndhorn Elves, etc.) perhaps with the exception of Boreal Druid.

Run also Collector Ouphe and Manglehorn to slow down decks that heavily rely on artifacts, which is most decks at the current state of EDH.

Depending on your budget, you should definitely run Green Sun's Zenith and Worldly Tutor, and perhaps squeeze in a Profane Tutor. Also cheap pick ups that are a must are Unmarked Grave, Reanimate, and Animate Dead.

If you don't want to run infinites (like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Walking Ballista), a nice non-infinite combo is Dauthi Voidwalker + Mindslicer + an infinite sac outlet (you should consider running also Carrion Feeder). Also if you run Phyrexian Delver, you can have your opponents lose around 20 life points each in a turn with Kokusho, the Evening Star (if Meren is also in play).

Cards I'd remove to accomodate the changes: Burning-Rune Demon, Khalni Ambush  Flip, Hagra Mauling  Flip, Dictate of Erebos, Read the Bones, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, Tormod, the Desecrator, Springbloom Druid, Greater Good, Satyr Wayfinder.

I have a decklist which is semi-competitive and quite expensive, but I can guarantee it is nice to have the deck running faster, smoother, and without having your opponents targeting you as the archenemy form the beginning. Meren Surgical Toolbox [2K22].

World Shaper is some pretty nice tech, i also like Stitcher's Supplier, Grim Haruspex, Greater Good, Izoni, Thousand-Eyed, Undercity Informer, and Altar of Dementia. I run a Meren list i absolutely love, but i dont like sharing links to my own decks on other peoples pages. Are there any cards on your list under 4 mana that you really like each time you find it? I am trying to speed up my list by decreasing my avg CMC throughout my deck. :p

Glad I could help a bit :). The MVP in my similar deck usually is Zetalpa. Once she is in the graveyard it's pretty much always good to cast your Commander (it will make you pretty much 100% of the time archenemy on the table, though). I'd swap Izoni, Thousand-Eyed for Odric, Lunarch Marshal in your sideboard, though. He's usally a beast in the deck.

I love a good insect deck! I made one recently with Izoni, Thousand-Eyed . Do you have any plans to update this deck? There's been lots of graveyard support over 9 years.
