Gidgetimer on Should I Keep Consuming Aberration …
1 week ago
The Mimeoplasm seems like the type of deck that Consuming Aberration would thrive in. I would cut it from the other 2 decks.
I'm not sure how much my replacement suggestions are going to be to your liking since I feel like your decks need mana ramp and you have been resistant to that suggestion in the past. So I would add a talisman to each deck. Since they are replacing a UB creature Talisman of Dominance is the easy one to name off, but any from the "pain lands, but as artifacts" cycle would do. To fulfil your "preferably creatures" requirement I'd say Grand Abolisher in Sen Triplets and Plaguecrafter for Thraximundar.
DemonDragonJ on Should I Keep Consuming Aberration …

I have a copy of Consuming Aberration in three different EDH decks of mine: The Mimeoplasm deck, my Thraximundar deck, and my Sen Triplets deck, but I am wondering if I should keep it those decks; it is very useful in The Mimeoplasm deck, as that deck uses graveyards as resources, but the other two decks typically do not care very much about my opponents' graveyards, so I am wondering what other cards I could put into those decks in place of Consuming Aberration (preferably creatures with a mana value no greater than 5, so as not to raise the mana curves of those decks).
What does everyone else say about this subject? Should I keep Consuming Aberration in those decks, and, if not, what cards do you suggest as replacements for it?
DemonDragonJ on Mystic Remora or Mind Stone?

I have a copy of Clout of the Dominus in my Thraximundar EDH deck, but I am planning to replace it with either Mystic Remora or Mind Stone, so I wish to ask everyone here which card that they prefer.
Both cards have the ability to sacrifice themselves, which works with the theme of that deck, but one provides card advantage, while the other provides mana, which is something that the deck definitely needs, given its high mana curve.
What does everyone else say about this? Which of those two cards should replace Clout of the Dominus?

If an opponent sacrifices a creature while I control Thraximundar and Drivnod, Carnage Dominus, does Drivnod cause Thraximundar's second ability to trigger twice and add two +1/+1 counters to Thraximundar?

I'm looking to replace Thraximundar with something more impactful. Ideally Terror of the Peaks, but that's way out of my budget. I'm thinking in the sub-$10 range.

Nice deck, I've got a similar one to it.
have you thought about using Phyrexian Altar? you've also got a Gravecrawler and you could sac the gravecrawler to altar generating one black mana, and so long as you control Thraximundar, cast gravecrawler from the graveyard and repeat, if done right it should net you infinite counters on Thraximundar, and infinite damage if you've got something like Diregraf Captain out. though can definite understand people who don't want to do infinite combos, not a fan of them myself unless they fit the theme of the deck.

TypicalTimmy yes Vanilla means no abilities or keywords only stats.
My terminology (the fist two are actually official terms used the last two I made up but kept with the ice cream theme lol)
Vanilla- No Keywords or abilities only CMC, stats and flavor text are allowed example: Yargle, Glutton of Urborg
French Vanilla- Like Vanilla but a creature has keywords like flash, lifelink, haste ect. but no abilities example: Storm Crow
(German) Chocolate- A creature that the opposite of French Vanilla it has abilities like ETB, tap or mana abilities but no keywords. Example: Bane of Progress
Neapolitan- A creature with both at least one Keyword and at least one ability. Example: Thraximundar

One issue I have with 'Precon' nowadays is there is a vast discrepancy between the power levels in precons and the perception that they are weak based is based on older decks. Having played many precons out of the box over the years, the old Jeleva or Oloro precons were worlds weaker than the modern set. Playing with Prosper and Millicent, they are much more synergistic and have just flat stronger cards in them than the old precons did. They suffer a bit less from the 'three ways to build' philosophy/ rule the old decks used to, even though they still usually come with the old three commander options. Compare, if you will:
Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge, Nekusar, the Mindrazer, and Thraximundar in

Spirit Squadron out of the box has rolled half my playgroup's "power level 7" decks. Part is, yes, the matchup. But that never would have happened in 2013.
