Why Are Bananas and Eggs so Popular?

I have noticed that the majority of breakfast foods at restaurants contain eggs, a fact that I dislike, since I am not fond of eggs, and I have also noticed that the majority of fruit smoothies at restaurants contain bananas, which I also dislike, since I am not fond of bananas. Therefore, I am wondering why bananas and eggs are so popular. What does everyone else say about this? Why are bananas and eggs so popular?

Eggs are a fairly inexpensive protein which can be prepared in a lot of different manners and which most folks enjoy.

Bananas make smoothies vastly creamier, allowing them to mix far easier and with far greater consistency. As someone who has made many smoothies for my better half (who enjoys bananas) and for myself (who hates them), I can categorically say that it is easier to make one with a banana in there and the texture will be a lot better. They are also healthy, inexpensive, and enjoyed by many.

One of the life lessons I learned is that you never question a person's taste in food. No matter how you dislike a taste of a certain food, someone will always bound to like it. And the opposite is also true, no matter how you find a food delicious, someone will always hate it.

I’m in the same boat, with not particularly liking bananas and eggs, but eggs are a LOT of food in one little package. Bananas are easy to grow and ship, which makes them better than almost every other fruit. Also, if you’re raising a baby, bananas are an important tool in the tool box when it comes to diet management.

I don't really know on either of these, I love both of these things : ) but on a somewhat related note, have you ever seen a natural banana, they are crazy. I used to have a banana tree and the bananas were 90% seeds with just a little bit of banana around it, but they are also so good! All bananas are picked green and ripened and an actual ripe on the tree banana is a game changer.

Also...weird banana facts...bananas are bred to have three sets of chromosomes so they don't make seeds, but this also means that they have to be grown by clonal propagation, so if there ever was a serious disease outbreak in bananas it would completely wipe them out because there is 0 genetic diversity in all of commercial bananas.

Sorry! Out of all my out of no where comments, this might be the most : ) Bananas are just super weird.

My banana trivia: Banana-flavored candies don't really taste like bananas, right? They actually taste closer to the Gros Michel variety that was popular a hundred years ago than to the current standard Cavendish. After most Gros Michel plantations got blitzed by a Fusarium fungal outbreak, the Cavendish took over.

Anyway, if anyone doesn't like bananas or eggs, I'll take 'em. To expand what got mentioned above, eggs are a very versatile food. They can be the main ingredient, part of an ensemble, or filler. An egg poached for a Benedict is different from an egg scrambled for a breakfast burrito, a soft boiled egg, or a fried egg.

For the people who don't like eggs or bananas, may I ask why? Is it textural, flavor, or something else? (I'm not going to try to convert anyone; I'm just curious.)

That's really interesting on the flavor. I guess I figured it was just one of those candy flavors not being similar (looking at you blue...raspberry?) but this is far more fun!

legendofa beat me to it: circus peanuts are banana candy and i love them. I think my main problem with them both is texture, though I do not find the flavors appealing either. I make a point of eating scrambled eggs with potatoes and meat and bread and anything else I can at -least- once a year. I really want to like eggs, because it’s SO MUCH food and they’re SO EASY. I just hate cooking and eating them. Everything about them is unappealing to me; texture, smell, taste, color.

What y'all are missing is how glorious a banana lassi is. For those that don't know, a lassi is basically a smoothie where yoghurt is the main player as opposed to fruit. It's traditional in south Asia. I took a trip to Nepal many years ago and there are banana trees everywhere and banana lassi's are also everywhere. Sooooooo good. Here in the states you usually only see mango lassi's at your neighborhood Indian restaurant, they are good but everyone is missing out on the best kind of lassi.

I will also concur that ripe banana's fresh off the tree are better.

Off the tree bananas are indeed a totally different experience, similar to how amazing they smell (in that circumstance) versus banana scented things.

Eggs rule! How else do you expect to become like Gaston?!

Oh, and one thing that makes bananas really appealing for producers is that if they are picked green they can be shipped a lot easier than soft fruit like blueberries or strawberries, or ripe fruit like watermelons or apples. Not having to be nice to fruit completely changes how they are shipped, and what that costs : )
