Terra Ravager

Creature — Elemental Beast

Whenever Terra Ravager attacks, it gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the number of lands defending player controls.

Terra Ravager feels a bit out of place in this deck, as you have a bit of a steal your opponents' stuff theme going maybe substitute in Hostage Taker .

Thousand-Year Storm probably needs a heavier base of cheap instants and sorceries to really power it up the way you want.

If you want to keep Dismiss into Dream in the deck, you should find some more permanents with activated abilities that can keep targeting your opponents' creatures to keep the board clear so you can reliably have one active when this enchantment hits the table. Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius comes to mind. Plus he's a source of card draw and doesn't die to Crux of Fate .

Your biggest area of need is the mana base, not enough sources for any of the colors to support them. I'd at least add the other 2 guildgates available [Rakdos & Izzet] as well as look at some cheaper duals. Foreboding Ruins , Smoldering Marsh or Canyon Slough aren't too expensive for Rakdos colors but can give you some flexibility. There are Dimir equivs but can't remember them off the top of my head.

Vraska, Relic Seeker?

Also, Mana Echoes. Combo it with Cathars' Crusade & Marath, Will of the Wild himself.

Intangible Virtue might be your style. Maybe Sigil Captain.

You could replace Terra Ravager, One Dozen Eyes maybe, and Vraska, the Off-Colored One obviously. =P

Oh yeah, and Gorgon's Head is another deathtouch equipment, to pair with your Basilisk Collar. Oh, and Lightning Greaves, but now I'm just reciting staples you probably already know about.

Hope some of that helps! I love Marath, he's one of my favorite commanders. Happy Magic-ing. =D

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! :D It's been helping a lot!

Deathstroke2791, Strionic Resonator is really good in this deck, I just happen to hate this card SO MUCH (due to some of my friends abusing it's effect), that I couldn't put it in or I would feel like cheating my own conscience. But yeah, I would also recommend this card in a real competitive Alesha ETB deck!

StopShot, I actually didn't know Flameshadow Conjuring! It seems great, I'll give it a try, thank you so much! :D

Treehugger003, Break Through the Line is another card I didn't know! It really seems nice, specially with Master of Cruelties in the deck (which it is).Terra Ravager wouldn't work when recurred with Alesha, though, because it would enter the battlefield "tapped and attacking", which wouldn't trigger its "When Terra Ravager attacks" trigger.Gustcloak Savior is too heavy of a drop for it's effect, I think. There's also the problem that you mentioned that it can't be recurred with Alesha. And I find Reconnaissance to be perfect to do this kind of job for me.Crypt Ghast wouldn't work so well because I only have 4 swamps in the entire deck, and in most matches I won't have more than 2 or 3 swamps on the battlefield. Unless I can get to Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth (which happens sometimes, but not often enough), it wouldn't do much work.Pyroblast would help a lot, actually. I'm also tired of them Cyclonic Rifts.

Some other cards to consider:1) Break Through the Line - serves as protection for the 2 power creatures

2) Terra Ravager - This one has some weird interactions on the first turn it gets pulled from the grave yard.

3) Gustcloak Savior - Recon on a creature. Granted it can't be recurred with Alesha.

4) Crypt Ghast or other black ramp works well.

5) When I was playing Alesha I found it helped to have a card like Pyroblast sometimes. I hate Cyclonic Rift

Enjoy the deck

I've always wanted to make some simple 40-card beginner decks to teach people how to play, and with the combination of me moving to a new school district and my girlfriend saying she is willing to learn, I have finally built them. I would like your opinions on them, and if they seem easy enough for a newer player to understand. (As a note, I tried to include a wide cast of keywords to emphasize the diversity of the game.)

Each deck has 17 lands and one rare, which the deck is themed around

Sorry for the long post. I run Alesha as my primary deck right now. My average CMC is close to 3.5 and I run pretty much human tribal. I'll try to make only a few suggestions/thoughts to consider. The world doesn't need a copy of the deck I run (considering I win about 1/4 you probably don't want an exact copy of my deck either). I'll also try to keep the suggestions cheap. I'm on a budget and I know I'm not the only one.

I'm having an issue figuring out how you plan to win. My reading of the deck is you plan to pound away with 2/2s (double strike?) and hopefully gain life and use Ayli to control the board.

There are a ton of creatures that have power less than 2 that have bigger upsides. most will raise your CMC so you need to pick and choose but here are a few:Gray Merchant of Asphodel-fits the life gain sub theme you are runningRaving Dead-recurring half life, why not?Terra Ravager-its power is less than 2 but on attack. Granted the first attack is 0 when called back.

There are others that are similar.

I've found that I'm perpetually card starved after the first 4-5 turns so card draw is a must. I'm guessing it will be worse for you. I have to confess I've not figured this out completely myself but a few recommendations: Solemn Simulacrum, Staff of Nin, I also run the cluestones for mana/sac for cards.

I run ramp I'm not sure if you are going to need it but Sword of the Animist is just amazing in this type of deck. Pilgrim's Eye and Kor Cartographer are also possibilities that can be recurred.

I'm also not seeing much in the way of anthem effects that benefit all your creatures other than the double strike one (I"m so totally taking that for my deck!!) There are a ton that vary in abilities/costs/cmc to choose from. These can be very powerful/useful depending on deck structure. If you want specific recommendations I can chime in later.
