Sakashima copy of Lazav, the Multifarious?

Asked by Quazer 7 months ago

if Sakashima the Impostor enters as a copy of Lazav, the Multifarious does Lazav's ability make Sakashima's name Lazav, the Multifarious? and if so does the legend rule suddenly apply?

Also! If Sakashima the Impostor enters as a copy of Lazav, the Multifarious while Lazav is a copy of another creature does Sakashima have Lazav's ability?

For the first question: yes, the name will change and you will have to deal with the Legend Rule if you control another legendary permanent with the same name. With the way Lazav's ability is written, it specifically sets the name to "Lazav, the Multifarious". It's not a case where it just doesn't copy the new name over and keeps its current one (it would need to say "except its name is still Lazav, the Multifarious", like how Sakashima's ability is written).

To the second question: yes, Sakashima will be a copy of whatever Lazav is copying and also have the Lazav ability. If a copy effect makes changes to the characteristics it's copying, including adding abilities, those changed characteristics become part of the object's copiable values.
