Gift of Immortality interaction question.

Asked by Sathanas 9 years ago

Lets say I only have a Hero of Iroas out with Gift of Immortality on it and so it has 1 +1/+1 counter. My opponent casts Crackling Doom and so I have to sacrifice my Hero. Does that trigger he effect of Gift allowing it to come back? And does it still have its +1/+1 counter on it (I'm guessing no)? And I'm also guessing if Gift of Immortality comes back it doesn't trigger heroic again because it isn't being targeted by a spell.

And I'm also guessing that exile spells such as Utter End don't allow Gift of Immortality to trigger because the creature doesn't die.

Gift of Immortality triggers when the creature dies; it doesn't matter how the creature dies. If you sacrifice Hero of Iroas, he is indeed dying (going from the battlefield to the graveyard).

You're correct in all your other assumptions.

Something else I just thought about is what about End Hostilities does that go around Gift of Immortality as well because it is destroying the gift and the creature at the same time?

@Sathanas If End Hostilities was used, Hero of Iroas would return to the battlefield as a replacement from Gift of Immortality, but gift would not return enchanting it at the next end step, because it has been destroyed.

"All" effects are simultaneous so any triggers on death that could happen, will still happen.

OK thank you for the answer.

That last part is incorrect, Enyeto. The Gift of Immortality will still return at the beginning of the next end step. This delayed trigger is set up as part of the creature-reanimation ability.
