Cunning Rhetoric playing lands edh?

If I'm playing Cunning Rhetoric in a Shadrix Silverquill deck and I exile an island from someone's deck, can I play it even though it's not in my colour identity?

You may cast cards and play lands that are outside your commander’s color identity, you just can’t run them in your deck. There was an old rule that prevented you from adding mana to your mana pool of colors outside those of your commander’s identity, but that rule has since been removed.
