Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on June 4, 2015, 7:09 p.m. by KillKid20095

This is my attempt at a very combo(not only infinite's) and synergistic deck, and i could more or less use some advice on making this deck have more combos and synergies. Most cards in my maybeboard are cards i don't understand(function wise, and in the long run of things) or card's that i think are average but don't deserve the slot. Please help me all help, and criticism will be appreciated. deck-large:mtg-decks/sacrifice-your-life-to-me/

Ah, Teysa. My favorite commander...

Combos I don't see in your deck:

Ashnod's Altar + Nim Deathmantle + Grave Titan

Phyrexian Altar + Nether Traitor + Teysa

Sun Titan + Animate Dead + Necromancy + sac outlet

Sun Titan / Karmic Guide + Fiend Hunter + sac outlet

There are plenty more to be found here: http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/204377-infinite-combos-database-now-looking-for

Cards you need:

Skullclamp - Adds infinite draw onto any infinite mana sac loop, just draw til you get Blood Artist, play him, and win. Orzhov Signet will let you do that even if you're out of colored mana (you could use more mana rocks).

Contamination - self explanatory

I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of. I recently completed (for the most part) my Teysa deck. I can make it not private if you want to take a look.

What rocks can you suggest besides Darksteel Ingot, i recently added Disciple of Bolas, Doomed Necromancer, Sidisi, Undead Vizier.

Im Thinking of Adding Altar of Dementia. Ill probably add Grave Titan.

Altar of Dementia is good, especially if you have ways to take creatures out of graveyards, it's also an insta-kill with a sac loop.

I run a ton of mana rocks (mostly because they get around Contamination), and a few great ones are Coalition Relic, Gilded Lotus, and Commander's Sphere. There's also the diamonds, Coldsteel Heart, Orzhov Keyrune, Fellwar Stone, and Khalni Gem just to name a few.

I'm also not really a fan of Disciple of Bolas, and compared to Skullclamp she's absolutely horrible. I really cannot stress enough just how powerful Skullclamp is in a token build.

Here's my list if you want to take a look.

Minion Reflector is the sort of card that might give you additional creatures to sac.

"Nontoken"

Nope.

true...I never said you needed to copy your tokens: you can copy the other creatures in the deck and sacrifice those (or attack with them)

sonnet666 I have reviewed your decklist, and i really like Dread Return but Butcher of Malakir and Bloodghast i see on alot of decklists but i dont understand why i mean Butcher is solid but his CMC is so high and Bloodghast is 1 free sac a turn but does that really make a big difference?

Sengir Autocrat, Orzhov Keyrune, and Gilded Lotus i am going to add.

I see you have Hell's Caretaker sided out i honestly think he's iffy due to his restrictions, but i would like to know your reasoning if it is any different.

I am also gonna find space for Necromancy as it is highly abused with sun titan.

While Bloodghast isn't TOO strong in this deck, it does really shine when you think about how it's not costing you mana after the initial investment. While Reassembling Skeleton, Bloodsoaked Champion, and Nether Traitor can come back multiple times in a turn, using them can really put a dent in your resources when you're trying to lay down a more powerful effect in the same turn. With Bloodghast every time you drop a land it's a free sac and an extra spirit. It's also non-token, so it gets seen by Ogre Slumlord (or Pawn of Ulamog if you're running him), it doubles up when used with any sort of fetch land, and it comes back regardless of how it's put in the graveyard (mill and discard won't bother you as much).

As for Butcher, my normal playgroup is very creature heavy and low on boardwipes, so even at 7 mana a fourth Grave Pact effect is worth the slot. That being said, he is the weakest GP effect, so when I play at my local shop he'll get swapped out for a Call to the Grave effect. I also used to have a bit of a reanimator subtheme going on in this deck, so I could toss him in the grave and pull him back out for cheap, but that strategy has kind of taken a backseat. As it is I can still toss him with Trading Post, or just cheat him into play using Deathrender (great card).

Out of all the games I played with Hell's Caretaker in my deck, I think I activated it's ability like a grand total of two times. I really like it as a card, but the upkeep restriction and the fact that I had no way to do it more than once a turn was just too limiting for it to actually work so I took it out. If you're looking for this kind of effect, I'd say try Champion of Stray Souls and go big or go home.

@GobboE: 5 mana plus an additional 2 for each creature is just too much to sink into 1 extra sacrifice. For a better version of that effect, see Spirit Bonds.

That is a very valid point, and i never thought of Deathrender but now that you bring it up it seems really strong. Bloodghast Will Definitely Take Hell's Caretaker Spot. Would you mind looking over the deck now i made a few edits?

I mean it seems good... Teysa is one of those decks where the subtle tweaks can make all the difference. And I don't want to just recommend every card in my deck cause then I'd be pushing every deck I give advice on in the same direction.

If you really want to go the combo route I should mention that Gift of Immortality goes infinite with Sun Titan.

I would cut Rotlung Reanimator as you only have 3 other clerics, maybe put Spirit Bonds in it's place since it fills a similar role, and you may want to consider replacing Return to the Ranks with Immortal Servitude, it will probably will get you more value.

May I ask how Cabal Coffers and Emeria, The Sky Ruin have worked for you? I've thought about running them in the past, but I always felt I wouldn't have enough swamps or plains to make them worthwhile. (If you do keep Cabal Coffers I would highly recommend including a Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Expedition Map package.)

Spirit Bonds: hmmm, nice...need to keep an eye out for it

I rarely get to do Emeria, The Sky Ruin's effect, and Cabal Coffers it has at most only netted me 6 mana so that Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth will be an inclusion. As for Gift of Immortality that is just genius, although i feel like i run too much reanimation.
